Instinto desexo
Instinto desexo is Bal Castro’s first solo work—an autobiographical project in which he speaks about the commodification of his body and his eroticism, and the use of his image as the main means to gain validation, with sex becoming his currency of exchange.
In Instinto desexo, Bal Castro presents a reflection on the projection of his image onto others—a projection that may awaken desire depending on the eyes that see it. This desire becomes the driving force behind his ultimate goal: the insatiable search for love.
Bal challenges the audience by asserting that we all possess a form of sexual capital that we use consciously or unconsciously, that we all have something that makes us desirable. He invites us on an imaginary journey through the different contexts in which this search unfolds, exploring various non-verbal communication codes and pointing out that any misreading of these signals can entail risks of varying intensity.
Through Instinto desexo, Bal seeks to immerse us in the physical sensations and thoughts stored in his body’s memory—sensations from those fleeting encounters, where the act of walking and walking positions us in a relentless search for discovering different bodies and movement qualities. He invites us to reflect on the hypersexualization and commodification of our images and bodies in today’s social context.
