Asoballada por fentos
Asoballada por fentos emerges as a branch of an art investigation beyond academia. A stanza of Galicianist romance, accompanied by tambourine and Falangist trumpet.
Based on the artistic practice and research of Álvaro Corral Cid, this project is presented as a symbiotic study between archive and performance, a practice that emerges alongside the musical accompaniment of Gabi Reboredo. A procedural invitation to read the materials of our folkloric memory with new eyes; a midpoint between muiñeiras, embroidery, cinematic newsreels, and dictatorship.
In this way, Asoballada por fentos starts from a trajectory that reflects on Francoist regional archetypes and the specters they project onto our contemporary ways of reproducing indigenous cultures. A space from which to condense an extended project on the construction of the Galician folkloric archetype during Franco’s regime, in a global panorama exploring the intrusion of authoritarian politics on identities in Spain and their traditional expressions. Procedural exhibitions offering renewed ways to understand and study the social heritage of materials from our recent history. A framework capable of embodying an era in which violence permeated craftsmanship, dance generated politics, and beauty coexisted with long shadows of oppression.
Álvaro Corral Cid & Gabi Reboredo
Álvaro Corral Cid (Ourense, 2000) is an artist and researcher. He graduated from Complutense University of Madrid in Fine Arts and obtained a Master’s in Art Research and Creation from the same university. His studies and artistic practices propose new vantage points from which to rethink our canonical epistemologies; from a printing press, a dusty manuscript, or a vest. Combining images, digging through archives, and examining meanings to the core. Overall, his artistic and research process seeks to uncover how national traditional practices, especially the Galician case study, can be reactivated as critical, poetic, and dissident tools to generate symbolic and visual surplus. Reflecting through sewing, archival work, and performance as methodologies for historical-artistic exploration, his studies focus on traditional garments in Spain and the continuity of national archetypes. His main works have been part of various national art centers and condensed into academic writings such as “La hermana muerta de Pilar Primo de Rivera y algunos modos de coser pensando en el pasado” (2025) or “D.R.A.G. (Dressing Resembling A Galician)” (2023).
Gabi Reboredo (O Carballiño, 1989) is a performer and teacher specializing in singing, percussion, and traditional dance. Born in the province of Ourense, he works in the dissemination of popular culture and its interpretation from a contemporary perspective. He has been part of bands such as De Cor de Lousa and Paraíso Canto and collaborated with artists like Sheila Patricia, Najla Shami, and Crúas. Currently, he works as a teacher in various cultural associations across Galicia (Algaravía, Solfa, or Rechouchíos) and participates in new musical projects such as aTorna and Lideira.
